This is the third Discworld novel, and the first time we meet Mistress Weatherwax, one my favourite characters. The Discworld is still in the early days of its evolution, but it was nice to be able to lost myself in a story with Terry Practchett's unmistakable touch of humour and improbability. It almost felt nostalgic going back to a pre-Ridcully University, and a solo Esme Weatherwax. The baby – Eskarina – grows into a headstrong young girl, and the twists and turns her journey takes are entertaining, and the endless trivial details had me laughing out loud. |
