This is one of those books that everyone has read and loved, and with good reason. The complex mother-daughter relationship is picked apart by Sidda, who has had too much therapy for her own good. She needs to know who her mother really is in order to live her own life, and manages to do so with the aid of her mothers scrapbook - The Divine Secrets.

The emotions that this book managed to invoke was surprising. Most books try to make you feel something powerful, but very few can pull it off as well as this one. The most powerful moment for me was the news about Jack, and Genevieves reaction to it.

I like the idea of someones life being presented as a collection of images and random words, and I like the way things were hinted at and then immediately explored and explained. Vivi goes from being an unforgiving, overly-dramatic woman to a vulnerable mother you can sympathise with, while Sidda becomes a much softer, more open person with each new story.

I enjoyed this book, and since I tend not to like things that everyone else goes crazy over, I was surprised by how much I liked it. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
