Overview |
Albert Campion is summoned to the village of Kepesake, to investigate a particularly distasteful death. The body turns out to be that of Pig Peters, freshly killed five months after his own funeral. Soon other corpses start to turn up, just as Peters' body goes missing. It takes all Campion's coolly incisive powers of detection to unravel the crime. |
Comment |
This was a very small book, but contained a full tale of lies, coverups and murder. Written in 1937, the style is wonderfully refreshing, with impeccable manners and none of the shock value and sex in more modern mysteries. I love the expressive language, and it wasn't hard to imagine this as an early Midsomer Murders tale. I'm glad I stumbled into this book, and I'll have to keep the author in mind for some more light weekend reading. |
